The Sun Touches The Tree

The Tree stands so tall.
Sunlight wakes it from slumber.
The Tree waves its thanks

I was sitting at the table preparing for Sunday Service, looking out the window from time to time.

Out in the distance stands a tree, at least 100 Feet tall. It is so tall that it is the first to catch the Sun as it rises. I watched as the far right tip of the tree’s leaves turned light with the Sun’s glow.

Little by little the tree shifted in color from a dark green to a yellow-green. The Sun, transforming the tree, right in front of my eyes.

The other day, I had the opportunity to join a group of 2-4 year-olds. We talked about seeds and growth and we made seed balls. At the end we went outside and we pretended to be a seed; sprouting roots, growing up, opening, blooming and lastly turning our face to the Sun to soak in its energy. It was such a wonderful feeling to turn our faces to the Sun.

As I watched the tree this morning become drenched in the Sun’s light, I wondered about the tree’s experience. When the Sun touches it, does it soak in that warmth, does it take a moment to drink that beautiful light in?

I think it does. How can it not? We all feel better when the Sun touches our face, don’t we?

Take some time today to slow down and watch the Sun moving through the sky. Look at how its light touches things, warms them and comforts them. Then take a moment to turn your face to the Sun and be aware of what it does for you.
